A Retrospective Exhibition
"Abstract: The Truth of Art" Ithipol Thangchalok

Organized by BACC Exhibition Department
Supported by Asia Plus Group Holdings Public Company Limited
and SCG Foundation
18 August 2015 - 21 February 2016
Main Gallery, 8th floor

Nearly 100 pieces including the former works and the ones that are never exhibited
are the works from ever period during 50years of creation of Ithipol Thangchalok who,
among few Thai Contemporary artists, intently and determinedly persists in following
the path of abstract art.

The path of Ithipol’s creation began with printing techniques that he practiced in his
undergraduate years. When he pursued his master degree in theUnited States, he
was officially acquainted of abstract art and realized that his practice could harmoniously
get together with the philosophy of abstract art. By the end of 70s, abstract art in
Thailand was losing its popularity and his fellow artists advised him to shift his praxis,
Ithipol firmly insisted that "Abstract art always works for me."

Because of his unchanging and serene path of creativity, Ithipol discovers the "truth"
of art in many aspects. Finally it is all about his faith in the simplicity of abstract art,
which allows the artist’s mind to truly discover the "truth" of art.

Guest Curator: Dr.Toeingam Guptabutra

Artist: Professor Emeritus Ithipol Thangchalok

When travelling, I try to keep in touch with the nature and use such feelings to inspire
my artworks. By integrating art with the spirit of nature, I try to recreate the graceful movements and impression of nature with the dimension of lines and colors. Through
my exhibition, the "Two Sided of Nature", the beauty of the nature is reimagined onto
the framed canvas for everyone to come and get closer to the other world of nature.

The New Rijksmuseum: special screening
with a discussion on museum restoration

Friday 27 November 2015 at 17.30 - 21.00 hrs.
Auditorium, 5th floor

BACC presents a special screening of "The New Rijksmuseum", a documentary about
the ten-year renovation process of the world famous Rijksmuseum in Amsterdam,
The Netherlands, followed by a discussion on museum restoration by experts working
in the field.

In 2003, an optimistic start was made with the renovation of the Rijksmuseum. The
Netherlands' major tourist attraction would re-open its doors in fresh splendor in 2008.
But right from the start the project was opposed by unyielding counter-forces and
Rembrandt’s palace was slowly transformed into an apparently permanent building site.
The award winning film is a documentaryabout ambition, love of art, typically Dutch
decision making processes, which finally culminates with the historic and emotional
'homecoming' of the masterpieces in the spring of 2013.

Free entry No reservation needed
*With Thai and English subtitles
*Film screening starts at 18.00 hrs.
*The discussion after the screening will be in Thai with English translation.

Upcomings in December

Si Ti Kay
11 - 13 and 18 - 20 December 2015
Studio, 4th floor

An interdisciplinary physical theatre performance by Noor Effendy Ibrahim (Singapore)

In the beginning, god created despair, for man to find hope within. I know I have heard someone say this somewhere before sometime back, but I’m not too sure who, when
and where. It must have been god herself who had said this through some men. I mean, who else could be that smart to tease men into such futility other than god herself. So there you have it. And here I find myself being teased into my own despair, holding on
to too much faith, knowing that hope for me lies deep within. Gingerly, I slide a finger in, resting, probing. Somehow sensing the despair within feels warmer, softer, safer, I slide
in another finger, followed by my thumb. But reason suddenly makes me pull both fingers
out almost instantaneously, reason that too often leads to greater despair. I am confused.
My thumb is still inside.
