A Retrospective Exhibition
"Abstract: The Truth of Art" Ithipol Thangchalok

Organised by BACC Exhibition Department
Supported by Asia Plus Group Holdings Public Company Limited
and SCG Foundation
18 August 2015 - 21 February 2016
Main Gallery, 8th floor

Nearly 100 pieces including the former works and the ones that are never exhibited
are the works from ever period during 50years of creation of Ithipol Thangchalok who,
among few Thai Contemporary artists, intently and determinedly persists in following
the path of abstract art.

The path of Ithipol’s creation began with printing techniques that he practiced in his
undergraduate years. When he pursued his master degree in theUnited States, he
was officially acquainted of abstract art and realized that his practice could harmoniously
get together with the philosophy of abstract art. By the end of 70s, abstract art in
Thailand was losing its popularity and his fellow artists advised him to shift his praxis,
Ithipol firmly insisted that "Abstract art always works for me."

Because of his unchanging and serene path of creativity, Ithipol discovers the "truth"
of art in many aspects. Finally it is all about his faith in the simplicity of abstract art,
which allows the artist’s mind to truly discover the "truth" of art.

Guest Curator: Dr.Toeingam Guptabutra

Artist: Professor Emeritus Ithipol Thangchalok

The Magic World of Czech Illustrators for Children Exhibition
An exhibition of the Czech Republic’s children’s book illustrators
at Bangkok Art and Culture Centre (BACC)
Organised by BACC Arts Network Department in cooperation
with the Embassy of the Czech Republic
15 December 2015 - 17 January 2016
Curved Wall, 4 - 5th floor
Opening Reception: Thursday 17 December 2015 at 17.00 hrs.

The Czech Republic is a small country located in the very heart of Europe. The popularity
of Czech children’s books, though, has reached far beyond its borders. The Czech artists’ illustrations included in this exhibition represent the best of the last hundred years of
children´s book illustration. Many of them have been awarded the most prestigious prizes
at international exhibitions and children´s book fairs.

The creations of Czech illustrators for children are distinguished by their boundless creativity
and fantasy, kindness, cheerfulness, and joy, all aiming to enhance a child´s vivid imagination.
To do this, Czech illustrators use finely balanced shapes and colours, which work to create
a variety of positive emotions. Together with the authors, the illustrators become the real
creators of children´s books. They have devoted their lives to make the world of children
kinder, clearer, and richer.

This exhibition offers the visitor a wide range of approaches to the colourful world of children's literature illustrated in this distinctive European style. Diversity is seen here
in the varying artistic forms of the artists and the changes in style over the generations. Together, it is the best contribution of Czech artists to the lives of millions of children
around the world, contributing greatly to a happy childhood, surely one of the finest
times of life.

A good book is one of a child’s best guides through life. Books open eyes and ears, helping
children perceive the beauty of life around them. Books illuminate the universal human
values of friendship, love, faithfulness, loyalty and humility, while at the same time making
a clear distinction from their undesirable opposites.

Enter the world of fantasy, beauty and children´s joy. It will be your guiding light to
The Magic World of Czech Illustrators for Children Exhibition.

Si Ti Kay
11 - 13 and 18 - 20 December 2015
Studio, 4th floor

An interdisciplinary physical theatre performance by Noor Effendy Ibrahim (Singapore)

In the beginning, god created despair, for man to find hope within. I know I have heard
someone say this somewhere before sometime back, but I’m not too sure who, when
and where. It must have been god herself who had said this through some men. I mean,
who else could be that smart to tease men into such futility other than god herself. So
there you have it. And here I find myself being teased into my own despair, holding on
to too much faith, knowing that hope for me lies deep within. Gingerly, I slide a finger in,
resting, probing. Somehow sensing the despair within feels warmer, softer, safer, I slide
in another finger, followed by my thumb. But reason suddenly makes me pull both fingers
out almost instantaneously, reason that too often leads to greater despair. I am confused.
My thumb is still inside.
