I AM YOU
Artist Vasan Sitthiket

A contemporary art exhibition
23 March - 27 May 2018
Main Gallery, 8th Floor

BACC is proud to present I Am You, a contemporary art exhibition featuring the works of Vasan Sitthiket. This Vasan exhibition gathers together more than 100 master works.

The uniqueness of Vasan’s paintings lies in its attractive, but challenging nature. His personally created free-form artistic language and diversified patterns of movement respond to the contemporary societal issues at hand. Through the elements of sarcasm, satire, and implicative comparison, his works are shaped and tempered to perfection by the artist’s well-versed artistic expertise in exploring various means of expression, which also include various initiatives with artist groups and activists from both private and public sectors who fight for societal, political, and environmental justice. Vasan has been one of the Thai artist representatives to participate in various international exhibitions in Australia, Indonesia, Italy, Japan, South Korea, Singapore, and United States of America.

I Am You exhibition presents works spanning from the year 1975 to the present day; starting with a retrospective look into the beginning of the artist’s journey to understand the essence of his ideas and works through his present participation in various social activities.

In addition to the narration of Vasan Sitthiket’s work concepts and life as an artist and activist, educational activities such as Curator’s Tour, Artist’s Talk, Critic’s Talk and workshops are also available at the exhibition.

Prof.Dr.Apinan Poshyananda

The Portrait of the King Bhumibol Adulyadej

The portrait of the late King Bhumibol is another part of the project "In Remembrance of H.M. King Bhumibol : The Supreme Artist" organized by Bangkok Art and Culture Centre Foundation and curated by Prof. Dr. Apinan Poshayananda, a member of the BACC Foundation Board, in order to pay tribute to the Supreme Artist, the late King Bhumibol Adulyadej.

The portrait, on the wall of the BACC facing Rama I Road, was designed to refer back with the graffiti works on the BACC centre wall facing the Patumwan intersection, in which the five graffiti characters offer gestures of reverence to the late king.

The portrait, measuring 34 metres by 25 metres or 850 sqm., was made with the wheat- pasting technique with the collaboration between a group of street artists, and art students from five art institutions : King Mongkut Institute of Technology Lat Krabang, Poh Chang Academy of Arts, Rajamangala University of Technology Rattanakosin, Chang Silp (College of Fine Arts), Silpakorn University and Rajamangala University of Technology Thanyaburi. The students had earlier made the portrait out of 39 panels before they were put up on the wall. This is the world’s largest portrait of the monarch by wheat-pasting technique.
