proudly present BUTOH FEVER: The 9th International
Butoh
Festival Thailand 2014. The festival will take place between 4 -
21 December 2014 and feature various international
artists including
Takita Takayuki (Japan), Mikio Tsunekawa (Japan / Chile), B-Floor
(Thailand), Salome Nieto (Mexico/Canada)
of pataSola Dance, Butoh
Co-Op Thailand, Valeria Geremia (Italy) of Sicula Butoh, Valentin Tszin of PoemaTheatre (Russia),
and Paul Ibey (Canada). Apart from
Butoh performances and workshops, there will be an exhibition and
installation by Boaz
Zippor (Israel), Teerawat Mulvilai (Thailand), Tawit
Keitprapai (Thailand), and Stephen Funke (Finland).
Why Butoh Fever, you may ask. There is a saying in Japanese, "If you
sit on a rock long enough it will get hot." This is the
9th festival and it
is steadily getting hotter. More and more international artists want to
present their work in Thailand. Also,
in Japanese culture the word for
the number 9 is similarto the sound for the word
that means "pain"
or "distress". Katsura
Kan has often likened Butoh as an illness that once infected, people's lives change. In other Asian cultures, the
number
9 symbolizes completion of the three realms of existence;
Mind, Body, and Spirit.
