PEEK @PETCH: Through Architecture Silpakorn’s Eyes
Organised by Faculty of Architecture, Silpakorn University
and BACC Exhibition Department
Supported by TOA PAINT (Thailand) Co.,Ltd.
and Mitsubishi Elevator (Thailand) Co.,Ltd.
9 February - 9 March 2016
Main Gallery, 7th floor

In 2310 B.E. (1767) while Thailand’s capital, Ayuthaya, was devastated by the second
defeat in the historical war, by which major parts of the city including temples and cultural
glories of Ayuthaya were set on fire and city was obliterated, Phetchaburi continued to
prosper with high arts and culture from the early Ayuthaya period without being affected
by wars. As many have said, "Phetchaburi is the living Ayuthaya."

This exhibition takes visitors through learning processes with which students, scholars,
artists, and designers from Silpakorn University have been exploring thePhetchaburi’s
masterful works of art, culture, and architecture throughout the Faculty’s 60 years since
the day it was founded. The outcomes of these studies of Petchaburi’s arts and crafts
have been in diverse forms photographs, art pieces derived from field experiences,
technically and artistic surveyed drawings (VERNADOC) and scaled architectural models
representing fine details of buildings, components, and original/creative art on the them.
In addition, a native Phetchaburi artist, Khun Korakot Aromdee, has created a new
bamboo structure highlighting the local wisdom of Phetchaburi. This will be specially made
to fit the BACC’s Main Exhibition space and will also thread through and connect different
parts of this exhibition.

It is important to learn from Phetchaburi culture to genuinely understand the past and
the present in order to create new worksin many fields that sustain the relevance of
Thai culture to today’s fast-changing life.

Shifting Horizons: music, myth, and memory.
The media art of John Sanborn
Organised by BACC Exhibition Department
25 March - 10 July 2016
Main Gallery, 7th floor

John Sanborn was a key member of the second wave of American video artists that
included Bill Viola, Gary Hill, Dara Birnbaum, and Tony Oursler. And though much of his
early works were shown in celebrated institutions, from the Whitney and MoMA in NYC,
to the Pompidou Center in Paris, his career embraced a fuller media journey that would
take him inside broadcast television, to Hollywood, and to Silicon Valley. This exhibition
marks the manner of this return, looking to music, the foundation, the pattern for his
distinctive use of media formalism; it conjures up issues of myth and reinvention, as media
remain an ever-changing medium; finally it acknowledges Sanborn’s role in performance
and performative collaborations with major 20th century dancers and performers, settling
the bond between him and his mentor, Nam June Paik.

Opening Reception on Saturday 5 March 2016 at 18.30 hrs.

Diary Me shows the significance of how I create my works which are to write and paint

day. All the feelings are based on the same foundation which is to be able to understand
my identity of my own life.

Enchanted Dream
By Supamas Taveechotipart
2 - 27 March 2016
People's Gallery P3, 2nd floor, artHUB@bacc

Enchanted Dream Sometimes,
dreams seem so real,
as if they are enchanted. Sometimes,
reality seems so vague, as if it does not exist.
What we see before our eyes, may turn out to be an illusion.
What we perceive as reality, may turn out to be lies.
Old fables give us simple morals.
But real life can sometimes be far more frightening and mysterious.
Like an enchanted dream.
Do not judge what you see by its appearance.
Old fables may be more than just fairytales.

Scene from a Wake
by Anup Mathew Thomas,
the second Han Nefkens - BACC Award for Contemporary Art winner
4 February - 6 March 2016
Studio, 4 th floor

In Scene from a Wake, Anup Mathew Thomas presents a set of works that look at
disparate incidents spread out over a century. Protagonists include a social reformer,
a planter, a dentist, a restaurateur, a bishop, and an artist. Thomas continues to build
up his collection of stories from one place, persistently archiving alternative moments
from different histories, some of which then come together based on commonalities
that may be odd but are significant. In Scene from a Wake, Thomas puts forward the
breakdown of plans, inescapable outcomes and the future as a space ripe for speculation.

About the Han Nefkens Foundation - BACC Award for Contemporary Art

The Han Nefkens Foundation - BACC Award for Contemporary Art is a collaboration
between the Han Nefkens Foundation and the Bangkok Art and Culture Centre (BACC).
The award is aimed at up-and-coming artists under 40 living in Asia. The long list of
candidates is put together by ten scouts from different areas in Asia who each select
three artists. A jury then chooses the winning artist.

This biannual award seeks to encourage artists in Asia who already have a solid body of
work but have not yet been showcased in major institutions. The award consists of
15,000 US dollars: a $3,000 artist’s fee and $12,000 towards the production of new
work as well as a residency and an exhibition at the Bangkok Art and Culture Centre.

Omnivoyeur
Sound and Visual Art Exhibition / Electrical Walks Bangkok

1 April - 10 July 2016
Main Gallery, 7th floor

As part of Urban Media Project In collaboration with Goethe Institute and Connecting Cities Network

The project of two artists from different but closely related fields, a renowned German
sound artist Christina Kubisch and a Thai Photographer, Miti Ruangkritya investigate the
urban landscape like Bangkok. The electromagnetic walk of Christina Kubisch guides
viewer through city with map and custom-made headphone catching magnetic sound
that are inaudible to naked ears, while field-recorded images of Miti Ruangkritya prolonging
perceptibility in mundane living, marking reflective thoughts from the omnipresent of
media in our increasingly technological environment. Both expressions are synthesized
in an exhibition space by means of acoustic performative and optical interpretation as
well as human possibility to experience by his or her inclusion as an actor in the work.
